Publishing, And Why Nothing Plays Until You Do

Publishing takes a snapshot of your whole library and gives it a version number. That snapshot is what a kiosk downloads — not your catalog as it stands right now.

So a video that has been uploaded but never published is on our servers and not on any screen. This is the step people miss, and it is the first thing to check when a new video is not playing.

Two places do it, and they are the same two steps: Step 3 - Publish on Upload Videos, or Publish the library and Send to kiosks on Video Database.

The table of versions underneath is also how you go back: an older row can be sent again if a new one turns out wrong.

Step 3 of the Upload Videos page: a Notes field, a Publish and Deploy button, and a table of published versions with video count, size and date.
The table of versions is also how you go back.

Worth Knowing

  • Write a note. The Notes field is what tells you six weeks later which version was the one before the mistake.
  • Publishing does not send. Publish makes the snapshot; sending tells the kiosks to fetch it — see sending to kiosks.
  • Give it a minute. Kiosks collect on their next check-in, not instantly.

Did That Not Do It?

Tell us which kiosk and what the screen is doing, and we will take it from there.
